Catching up at 21 weeks!

Well, lets just say it has been a while and we need to catch up since last time we were on! Where to begin...

At 18 weeks we had our third ultrasound where we officially found out the gender. Doctors were right, a girl! During the ultrasound she kept moving from one side to the other, making the doctor work extra hard. All signs show the baby is doing great, healthy and right where she needs to be.

The next week she made it known she was there, kicking mom's belly. We were eating lunch and when the baby moved, dad put his hand on mom's belly to try and feel the baby... and finally he felt her! It was the first time that anybody was able to feel her, this was just another special moment we were able to share together.

Once we got confirmation, the work on the baby room really began. We were able to pick actual colors, a theme, and set the foundation for what lies ahead. We have put our craft skills to the test, so far creating a unique room just for her!

We next began our registry at Buy Buy Baby. We had a blast going through all the items, we didn't realize how much goes into preparing for a little one. We still have some work to do on finishing it, but hopefully by the upcoming weekend the baby registry will be all set.

Lasty, the name! We have gone through so many names, and at times it was overwhelming. Buying the "5000 names" book wasn't any help at all either! After talking and throwing ideas out, we came across Kayden. We looked at each other and smiled, we both knew this was the name for our baby girl.

Now at 21 weeks, things are going great. Kayden is kicking more frequently, and harder and harder each day!

First Trimester Screening

Yesterday, September 23rd was the end to our first trimester. At 12 weeks we went in for our second ultrasound and to test for any chromosomal disorders. We were lucky to have Grandma and Grandpa Drew in town to share the moment with us.

When the ultrasound began it was amazing to see the development since our last appointment. The baby went from 0.6 cm to 13.6 cm in just over a month! The images the technician was pulling up were in 2D, 3D, and 4D... crazy to see how much technology was able to show us. We were also very lucky to the baby moving inside, the doctor said we had a mover! The baby moved up, down, and even had hiccups!

The chromosomal testing were also very positive. Testing the lining behind the baby's neck showed a very small likelihood of any chromosomal problems. All we both want is a very healthy baby!

And lastly, the sex of the baby! The technician asked if we wanted her opinion and of course we said yes. She said, "I think its a girl!" She did explain she wasn't 100% sure, but that was her belief. Then at the end the doctor came in to take some final images. We asked again the odds of the baby being a girl... 60/40? 70/30? She looked at us and said, "It's a girl!" We are excited to have this great news, and in another month we will be able to tell 100% if it really is a girl!

Puppy Guarding

Since the pregnancy began we have seen changes in our puppy Charlie. He has always been a momma's boy, but now every night he has been guarding the baby! His puppy body laying across mom's legs and stomach.

You always hear that animals can sense these things and we are seeing it firsthand. Glad we have another protector!

Another visit to the doctor!

On Friday, September 2nd at the 9 week mark we had another doctors visit. We thought it was just for a checkup and more blood work, but to our surprise, no blood work! Instead we got our results from our last visit which were all positive. We were also able to get all of our questions answered, questions which had been on our minds for weeks!

We are scheduled to do our second ultrasound which will be at 12 weeks. The both of us have been dying to see just how big our baby is! All we know is that the baby is the size of a prune, the uterus is now the size of a grapefruit, and all vital organs are in place.

Hopefully we will be able to share our next ultrasound photos within the next week!

Our First Ultrasound

On August 19th, we went in for our first ultrasound! This was a day we were anticipating, so much excitement to finally see our little one.

The doctor showed us many different angles of the baby, and we were eager to hear its heartbeat. She said she didn't know if it was possible, but she would try anyway. She messed with it for a little, then finally over the speakers the baby's heartbeat sounded. We were able to see the soundwaves across the screen, 124 beats per minute... a healthy heartbeat! We looked at each other and smiled with tears in our eyes!

This was one of the most exciting days for us! Next doctor's visit is September 2nd, and next ultrasound isn't set for 10 more weeks. However, we hope to schedule another ultrasound within 5-6 more weeks for fun!

The Test!

On Friday, July 29th, we found out we are having a baby! After days of wondering, a pregnancy test came up positive! We then took two more just to make sure, and those said the same.

We made a quick trip to the doctor, and blood test results the next day confirmed! The both of us couldn't be more excited. After 6 years together, and over 2 years of marriage, this gift in our lives is a blessing!
